WHY DID ALLAH CREATE VIOLENT AND DANGEROUS ANIMALS?

Why did Allah create violent and dangerous animals?

I am always asked about the reason of the creation of scorpions, as they are pernicious animals. One may wonder that as God has subjugated the universe to man, why then, create such bad arthropods? Some don't get why such harmful creatures were created!

Those wondering about that don´t get the nature of our world. They think it should be a paradise. But bad, evil people do not deserve to live in a paradise, and also, many people fall under this category. If it was a paradise, it would seem as if God gave all the same treatment, that He let the good, pious ones be rewarded, along with the wicked and sinful ones.

Paradise has been created for those who deserve it, and not all people deserve it. So, no one has the right to object to any kind of harm or calamity, or reject such things. One should ask himself whether he deserves a paradise. If all people were good and worthy of living in a paradise, God would have created this world as paradise.

God says that Paradise is in the Hereafter, and that those who deserve it will enter it. First, people must undergo a process of sorting out, so that evildoers, the wicked and evil, would not enjoy the bliss of Paradise. Human beings must be sorted out; our world is made for that purpose, and is to test people´s patience facing affliction and trials. No one is exempted from affliction and tribulation, even Prophets. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)[1] said: "The people most prone to trials are Prophets, and then, most the pious people, and then the less pious…."[2] So, no one is exempted from affliction, as it is a test all are subjected to.

As a result, we face very hot and very cold weather, diseases, senility, microbes, evil, volcanoes and earthquakes. But God´s Mercy prevails, God´s mercy is evident: Health is the rule and illness is the exception. Good´s Mercy is evident as far as weather is concerned: extremes of weather are the exception, while hurricanes, tornadoes, torrents and avalanches are just accidental events.

God intervenes with His Mercy, as He has let every evil to have something good in it. In other words, infections may strengthen the immunity, volcanoes discharge quantities of liquid metals, earthquakes release the inner pressure of the core of Earth, and thus restores it to its balance. Cold and hot weather act as a sauna, stimulating the circulation. So, every evil includes something good, this is considered Divine Mercy.

God's Mercy is, also, clear on facing plights, as surviving tribulations and disasters enhances self growth. Indeed, then, man would get to acquire endurance.  God has, also, granted man a mind, skills and knowledge, to control insects and overcome bad weather, and also, to use waterfalls in generating electricity. So, man has been able to benefit from evil, he fights diseases by medicine, etc.

There is, also, another side of His Mercy; God shows us the importance of the existence of evil, as evil and freedom go hand-in-hand. God has granted man freedom of choice, which means that man has the right to err, and to err to is do evil and to sin.  So, this evildoing maybe a result of the freedom granted to us by God. God could have created us, as angels who do not err, who would be obliged to do good, but that would make our deeds unintentional; man should willingly resort to God and choose to act righteously.

On the other hand, man may err as a result of the freedom of choice; such errors are evildoings, so evildoing is the price of our freedom of choice.

God's Mercy has prevailed in making this troublesome life a temporary abode for man. In the Noble Qur'an, we find that Allah says,"Verily, We have created man in toil."[3] , but God's Mercy has limited this toiling; the world is but a temporary abode for mankind. The world is just a path to reach the Hereafter, it is not our final abode.

Anyway, back to the issue of the reason of scorpion's existence; well, many people have a more harmful effect than scorpions, as a scorpion may sting one person, and this person may not be killed at all, but a drug dealer destroys millions of youth, and ruins entire communities. Public execution is not an enough punishment for such people! They should be dealt with according to their bad deeds, as they are worse the tuberculosis cholera, etc. If we compare a scorpion with such a drug dealer, we'll find that the scorpion is much better! It isn't as pernicious as a drug dealer.

Finally, man may not imagine how he is like on the inside. On taking a closer look at man, it will be found that everyone has at least 100 billion microbes in the entire body. Microbes exist in every part in our bodies, even our hair!  Our bodies are full of microbes and parasites, some are useful, others are harmful.

Scientists have been able to use E-Coli bacteria of the gut in synthesizing the best type of insulin, which is the human insulin, yet, they are only microbes. Scientists also made a medicine for rheumatism from bee venom, also, an antibiotic was prepared from special ant glands; it is able to kill many microbes, bacteria and fungi.

There is nothing as filthy as drainage water microbes, I think they may be the filthiest. When such microbes are put inside containers, along with wastes and other filthy materials, a gas evolves by virtue of the activity of such microbes, this gas is called biogas, that is used as a fuel to operate motors and generates electricity. See how these microbes are exploited?! Even waste water and sludge are useful to man.

The microbes of small pox, typhoid, tuberculosis, cholera and poliomyelitis, are used to prepare vaccines, to protect man against these diseases. Diphtheria vaccines, for instance, are prepared from the microbes of diphtheria, by attenuating them, so, these vaccines protect us from them.

Man tries to save life with deadly things, through God's Grace, namely; mind and reason. Moreover, the skin of snakes is used to make leather products, and penicillin is produced by mold. Poet Ahmed Shawqi wrote how toxins were used to make medicines. "Of the poisonous toxins are medicines."

When one thinks thoroughly about the world that is full of evil, one would find it a kind of strange mélange, yet, you can't find better substitute. This is an example of the old proverb that goes: "What exists can't be better." Allah's created this universe and He is the All-Wise and All-Knowing. If one sees a blemish, one should reconsider the matter, for this seemingly evil thing may be a blessing in disguise.

Abu Hamed Al-Ghazali has a saying that goes: "Had not been for its curve, a bow would not throw arrows." The bow is curved, or in other words "crooked", yet this curve is useful; it allows the throwing of arrows. That was our episode.
